Major waste generated in the urban areas (approx 50-60%) is bio degradable that can be processed to largely safe material for bio degradation. The waste collected is generally called as Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) consisting of paper, food, glass, wood, plastics and other items
There are various options available to convert solid waste to energy or safe disposal.
Main technologies/ methods are
sanitary landfill,
Combustion or incineration,
gasification,
Biomethanisation or anaerobic digestion
Sanitary landfill is the scientific dumping of municipal solid waste in selected and notified locations where the maturity of the waste material is achieved faster and hence gas collection starts even during the landfill procedure.
Combustion or incineration technology uses controlled combustion of waste which is fired in steam boilers that in turn produces power through steam turbines.
A gasification technology involves pyrolysis under which gases with calorific value of 1000–1200 kcal/nm 3 is generated which could be used in internal combustion engines for direct power generation or in boilers for steam generation to produce power.
Other option is to use the generated fuel as a alternate to coal, lignite etc or as additional fuel for process in Cement Industry
In biomethanation, the waste that can decay is digested anaerobically (in absence of air), in specially designed digesters. Under this active bacterial activity, the digested pulp produces the combustible gas methane and inert gas carbon dioxide. The remaining digestate is a good quality soil conditioner.
Medical wastes from hospitals and items that can be recycled are generally excluded from MSW used to generate electricity.
MSW consists mainly of renewable resources such as food, paper, and wood products; it also includes nonrenewable materials derived from fossil fuels, such as tyres and plastics.
Tecpro offers a turnkey solution for management and process of solid waste that can be used as either land fill or for generation of fuel o usage as alternative fuel for burning in kilns in Cement Industry.
With collaboration of M/s MVW Lechtenberg Projektentwicklungs- u. Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH , Germany Tecpro can provide following services:
Consultancy services for planning and construction of process facilities for handling MSW.
Chemical and physical; assessment of wastes and waste suitability tests to decide on process technology.
Selection of process and equipment depending upon the assessment of waste material, their composition etc.,
EPC contract for the entire MSW process plant.
MVW Lechtenberg & Partner have been active for many years in the waste-economy and here especially in treatment of wastes as secondary-fuel for heat-demanding processes.
Lechtenberg & Partner is specialized on the planning, the construction and operation of production-plants for secondary fuels made from bio-mass like wood, straw and other specific wastes such as paper, plastic films and foils, plastics etc.
